Hi Ranger Tom

I have been camping for about oh 15 years now. We camp mosting in our area from NH to Maine and have been to many campgrounds.
Every year I add something to our equipment collection that somehow I am still amazed that i can fit into out truck , even my hubby cant beleive I want to bring all this stuff with us hehe .. You see I have to bring everything including the kitchen sink lol.. You would say that I have a camper without the camper...my newest item is a foldable sink with counters and two end popout tables and this year I get to see if washing the dishes is going to be better than hanging the water jug to a tree and sitting on a milk crate like I had to in the past.

My family and freinds think Im a bit crazy cause I even have a camping list that is about 4 pages long .. I will post that in the community section to share with you all

but my question to you is this

of all the times I have gone camping there is something that I can not figure out how to prevent

no matter what I do the salt and sugar always seems to harden up over night from the moutain air.

I have tried putting a few grains of rice in the with it .. that dont work and then it taste like rice as well yuk

I put them in sealable baggies still it hardens

and I used a plastic container last time but I dont think it was air tight cause it happened again

I have even left it in the car and that seems to work but who wants to be going back and forth to the car when you need it right.

Can you help

We leave for our next camping trip in 19 days so Im running out of time to figure this out

Do you think that if I use a air tight container that should resolve my problem???

Hi,

This is not really something I'm familiar with, but you might try placing saltine crackers in a plastic bag, then place the salt or sugar in a separate bag inside that one. If you find something else that might work better please be sure to post. Anyone?

Find an online source for the silica-gel packets - they absorb moisture, and are food-safe. After camping, they can be heated and 'recharged'.
I remember my Mother keeping rice grains in the salt shakers - same idea I would guess.
When camping, and even at work, I have developed the habit of using honey instead of granular sugar. It takes some getting used to in coffee, but I like it! ;)
